Brazil Inclusive Recycling: Update from PIA Inclusive Recycling Working Group

June 28, 2018

Based on the research of MIT City Planning Master’s student Talia Fox, this D-Brief provides recommendations for waste management policy that ensures the participation of informal recyclers, or wastepickers, in extended producer responsibility (EPR) systems in Brazil. Full thesis: Co-opting Sustainabilities: The Transformative Politics of Labor and Extended Producer Responsibility under Brazil's National Solid Waste Policy.

Talia’s work builds upon previous D-Lab student work exploring mobile technologies for wastepicker cooperatives with the Danone Ecoystem Fund through the course D-Lab: Waste, as well as the PIA Inclusive Recycling Working Group.
